Detailed Itinerary – 11 Days Best of Uganda Safari
Day 1: Entebbe – Kampala.
Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet and greet with our tour representative who will warmly welcome you and facilitate the necessary arrival formalities. You will then be transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
You are advised to have the money changed on this day.
Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel / Cassia Lodge / Acadia Suites
Day 2: Kampala – Murchison Falls National Park.
Does an early morning breakfast then drive northwest to Murchison Falls National Park. You will make a stop at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary for the rhino trekking experience. A local ranger guide will lead you on foot to an up-close encounter with the rhinos and it may take about 1 and a half hours. Proceed to Masindi Town for lunch and later continue to Murchison Falls National Park arriving at your lodge late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge / Chobe Safari Lodge (upmarket accommodation) or Pakuba Safari Lodge / Nile Safari Camp / Sambiya River Lodge (Midrange accommodation)
Day 3: Morning game drive, afternoon boat cruise on the Nile and top of the falls
Arise very early in the morning for a cup of coffee/tea after which you will head for a game drive on the northern bank of the River Nile in your safari vehicle which will give you an excellent opportunity to view and photograph the diverse wildlife. With the help of your guide, you will spot games like the elephant, lion, cape buffalo, Roth child’s giraffe, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, hyena, and if you are lucky, the leopard.
After lunch, you will go for a boat cruise upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just a few meters from the ‘Devil’s Cauldron’ here you will get up close and personal with schools of hippos, crocodiles and over the 17km stretch you may see elephant, waterbuck, and Uganda Kob. You will also see a variety of bird species like goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare shoebill stork-take as many photos as you wish. You may choose to continue to the top of the falls, where you will have an amazing view of the falls! See how the Nile water forces itself through a narrow gap 43meters below. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park
After your morning breakfast, check out of Murchison and begin your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. Drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through traditional homesteads, farms, and Tea Estates. You’ll stop on the way for lunch, reaching the park early evening. Check-in at Primate lodge / Ndali Lodge (Upmarket accommodation) or Mountains of the moon / Chimp Nest Lodge (Midrange accommodation) for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk in the afternoon
It’s breakfast at your lodge then transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the Chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest National Park which is known to have the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa and the most famous of its 13 species is the Chimpanzee- man’s closest relative where this park’s 1450 Chimpanzee represent Uganda’s largest population of this endangered primate. Other primates you can find here include; I’Hoest’s monkey, the black and white Colobus, Blue monkey, Grey-cheeked mangabey, Red-tailed monkey, Olive baboon to mention but a few. Back to the lodge for lunch then head for a guided nature walk in the Bigodi swamp
That accommodates around 200 species of birds that include papyrus gonolek, white-winged warbler and great blue turaco, spot butterflies, and other primates. This walk can last between 2-3 hours then go back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Kibale Forest National Park – Queen Elizabeth National National Park
Have breakfast early morning then head to Queen Elizabeth National Park as you drive in, you might spot some animals. Upon arriving, check in at your lodge where you will enjoy a hot lunch then continues for a unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. While on this trip, you are to pass through a high concentration of hippos and this is a good platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. Also, the birdlife is colorful and stupendous, with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Ishasha Wilderness Camp (Upmarket accommodation) or Ihamba Safari Lodge (Midrange accommodation).
Day 7: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise
After a cup of coffee/tea, head for a morning game drive which will provide excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, giant forest hogs, Cape buffalo, elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, and bushbuck. Since Queen Elizabeth National Park has a diverse ecosystem, you will as well have sights of grassy plains, tropical forests, rivers, swamps, and lakes, to mention but a few. In the afternoon after lunch, go for the launch cruise on the Kazinga channel for yet another chance to see birds, hippos, elephants, and do more photography. Return to the lodge for dinner and your last overnight stay.
Day 8: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
After your breakfast, check out of your lodge, and as you leave, drive through the Ishasha sector for your final visit with the lions and other wildlife then continue to Bwindi through the Switzerland of Africa area known as the Kigezi Highlands.
Do some refreshments then go for a guided community walk to experience the livelihoods of the local communities on the Batwa trail among the people you will meet will be the traditional herbalist who prepares native medicine to treat a wide array of human sicknesses, a blacksmith manufacturing local tools used in everyday life. You will see how local beer is brewed using local methods and then enjoy entertainment from the traditional community dancers. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Safari Lodge / Silverback Lodge (upmarket accommodation) or Chameleon Hill Lodge (Midrange accommodation).
Day 9: Gorilla Tracking
Have breakfast very early in the morning and with a packed lunch leave for the park headquarters for a briefing about the gorilla tracking experience. The ranger will guide you starting from the site where the gorillas were encountered the day before. Although the hike can be tiresome, the anticipation of the exciting experience ahead is amazing, and the beauty of the gorilla forest and its inhabitants are fascinating. The tracking can take up to 8 hours and once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed only an hour with them, stand meters away as you watch how they feed their young ones, play, rest. After, go back to your lodge, have a relaxed evening waiting for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Lake Mburo National Park
Have a relaxed breakfast then depart for Lake Mburo National Park-Uganda’s smallest National Park Uganda, nonetheless, it’s got a lot to offer like a series of swamp-fringed lakes, the rich birdlife, green acacia woodland that harbors wildlife like Zebra, warthog, Eland, Impala, not forgetting the lake itself, which harbors schools of hippos and crocodiles! When you arrive, check-in at Mihingo Lodge / Mantana Tented Camp (Upmarket accommodation) or Mburo Safari Lodge / Acadia cottages (Midrange accommodation) for lunch. In the afternoon, head for a boat ride on Lake Mburo and get close to the croc and hippos. As you return to your Lodge, you may have an evening game drive. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 11: Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala (Departure)
After breakfast, you will have a safari walk. It is exciting to approach wildlife at such close range. Later, drive back to Kampala with a stop at the Equator for the water experience, take some photos, do some souvenir shopping then continue with your journey arriving in Kampala in the evening.
