Detailed Itinerary – 5 Days Uganda Primates Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
At 6:30 am in the morning, you will head for a westward 5-6hr drive to Fort Portal – Kibale Forest National Park. Expect this journey to be an interesting one as your English-speaking driver will do his best so that you enjoy the journey through the Ugandan countryside. It is a scenic drive and once again you will be reminded why Uganda is the Pearl of Africa. Arrive at Fort Portal and continue toward Kibale Forest, one of the great African rainforest research reserves, is famous for the variety of primates and it is a known area for birds. Arrive at Kibale Forest in time for lunch, and prepare for the afternoon Bigodi walk. Dinner and overnight will be at Primate Lodge / Ndali Lodge for Luxury Accommodation, Mountains of the Moon Hotel / Chimp’s Nest for Midrange Accommodation.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and nature walk
This morning, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on how to track the chimps. They live in communities of about 100 individuals; see how they behave and you will realize there is a lot we share in common with them. Check out more primates such as the golden monkey, olive baboons, red Colobus, white and black Colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey and blue monkeys. After, go back to the lodge for lunch from where you will go for a guided nature walk in Bigodi sanctuary (Magombe swamp). There is plenty of birdlife, butterflies and tree species. The Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek are among the 137 bird species. Dine and sleep at your lodge.
Day 3: Depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
After breakfast in the morning, check out and leave for Bwindi National Park the home to many of the world’s mountain gorillas. Reach in time for lunch at Silver Buck Lodge or Gorilla Resort (Luxury Accommodation), Chameleon Hill Lodge or Bwindi Volcanoes Lodge (Midrange Accommodation).
Day 4: Gorilla Tracking
Have breakfast very early morning, take packed lunch and head to the park headquarters. You will have a briefing before continuing to the forest for the tracking experience. This may take between 6-8hours and once you meet the gorillas, you will see be amazed by the way they feed their young ones, feed and play. Spend an hour with them then retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Back to Kampala
After breakfast in the morning, check out of the park as you have views of the wild, lunch will be enroute arriving in Kampala early evening.
